Free dachshund crochet pattern – quick and easy amigurumi dog

This little pup is not only super cute but also designed with simplicity in mind, making it a perfect quick crochet pattern – great for beginners or anyone wanting a satisfyingly fast make. So, if you've been searching for a fun and free dog pattern that's genuinely easy and quick and looks absolutely adorable, you've definitely found it! Grab your hook and some yarn, and let's make a little wiener dog together!

Materials and supplies:

  • Size of the toy, crocheted with the recommended yarn is approximately 6,5 cm long, 5 cm tall.

  • This toy was made of 100% mercerized cotton yarn which weights is 50g/125m (each ball is less than 50 g)

  • Fiber filling

  • Big tapestry needle for sewing details together, scissors

Abbreviations:


I use US terms in all my English crochet patterns.

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

hdc -half double crochet

dc -double crochet

sl st - slip stitch

inc - increase

dec - decrease

bobble st - Yarn over, insert the hook into the next stitch. Yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over, pull through two loops. Repeat this four more times until there are a total of five loops on the hook. Yarn over, pull through all loops on the hook. The bobble will be secured with a single crochet in the next stitch.It may happen that the bobble stitch ends up on the wrong side of the work—if needed, use your hook to push it to the right side.

Free dog/dachshund crochet pattern

Head

Start: with brown yarn make a magic ring.

1. 6 sc into the magic ring (6)

2. inc*6 (12)

3-6. sc into every sts across (4 rounds) (12)

7. 3 sc, inc*6, 3 sc (18)

8. 3 sc, (sc, inc)*6, 3 sc (24)

9-13. sc into every sts across (24) (5 rounds)

If you are using safety eyes (6 mm), insert them between rounds 7-8, at the first and last increase. If you prefer to embroider them, do so after finishing the head.

Stuff the head.

14. (sc, dec, sc)*6 (18)

15. (sc, dec)*6 (12)

16. dec*6 (6)

Fasten off, and weave in the ends.

Ears - make two pieces

Start: with brown yarn, ch 8, join with a sl st between rounds 11-12 of the head, ch 1, turn, and crochet on both sides of the chain.

1. 3 sc, 3 hdc, dc, 3 dc into the last st, crochet on the other side of the chains: 3 dc into the first st, dc, 3 hdc, 3 sc, join with sl st to the head. (20)

Fasten off, and weave in the ends. Embroider the nose and the eyes (if needed).

Body

At the body of the dachshund, at the end of every round, join with a sl st to the first stitch, then chain 1 to start the next round.

Start: with brown yarn make a magic ring.

1. 6 sc into the magic ring, join (6)

2. ch 1, inc*6, join (12)

In the next round crochet the tail.

3. ch 1, (sc, inc)*3, ch 5, turn, work into the second chain from the hook: sl st into every st across, (sc, inc)*3, join (18)

4. ch 1, sc into every sts across, join (18)

In the next round crochet the back legs.

5. ch 1, sc, bobble st, 14 sc, bobble st, sc (18)

6. ch 1, sc into every sts across, join (18)

Change color to pink.

7. ch 1, sc into every sts across, join (18)

8-10. ch 1, BLO sc into every sts across, join (18) (3 rounds)

In the next round, crochet the front legs. Use brown yarn for the legs.

11. ch 1, sc, bobble st, 14 sc, bobble st, sc, join (18)

12. ch 1, sc into every sts across, join (18)

Stuff the body.

13. ch 1, BLO (sc, dec)*6, join (12)

14. ch 1, dec*6, dec (6)

Fasten off, and weave in the ends.

Embroider the outfit: stitch into the front loops left unworked, as shown in the pictures.

Sew the head to the body, and if you want to use it as a keychain, attach a loop.
